Joel W. Todd earned his reputation as a straight-shooting, tough-as-nails attorney by being a fair negotiator who is not afraid of a fight. Keeping his client’s best interests in clear view, Mr. Todd will do whatever he can to broker a favorable resolution, whether that means negotiating or taking it to the courtroom. As the former chair of the litigation practice at Dolchin, Slotkin & Todd, P.C. (DS&T), it is Mr. Todd’s readiness to go to the mat that sets the standard for the other members of the DS&T team. His characteristic “say what I mean and mean what I say” attitude is one of the reasons he consistently develops intense personal relationships with his clients.
Mr. Todd has extensive experience in commercial litigation, professional malpractice law and insurance bad faith claims. His practice focuses on the representation of business professionals, both as plaintiffs and defendants, in commercial cases.
A founding shareholder of DS&T, Mr. Todd brings substantial litigation know-how to the firm that he acquired in private practice both with law firms and as a sole practitioner. Prior to that, he cut his legal teeth in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Todd earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and his B.A. cum laude, with Phi Beta Kappa distinction, in political science from Hobart College. Mr. Todd is admitted to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court; the State Bar of Montana; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; the U.S. Court of Appeals, the 5th and 3rd Circuits; and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. His outstanding legal abilities and high ethical standards have earned him an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell*.
An ardent conservationist and outdoorsman, Mr. Todd is energetically involved in the fight to preserve the Montana wilderness near his home. A strident individualist who works hard to keep technology working for him and not the other way around, Mr. Todd spends treasured time in the fresh air with his family.
*Martindale-Hubbell® ratings are determined based on peer review, and are one of the primary ways attorneys are evaluated by corporations seeking counsel and by other attorneys making referrals or seeking counsel outside their jurisdiction.
